On April 12th, 2007, Mark Shuttleworth stated that “the Fawn has found her legs,” and [WWW] announced the next development cycle codename for the 7.10 release, the Gutsy Gibbon. As with previous releases, the users had made it clear that usability and stability are the things they look for the most. Well, we are happy to say that the goals for the Kubuntu developers for 7.10 will be to increase the usability following the guides created by recent audits from the KDE community, increase stability while using the latest applications for the Linux desktop, and increasing the ease of installation.

Learn What Causes Baldness!
27 09 2007hat causes baldness? It’s a question that has riddled man for thousands of years. In Ancient Rome, they believed baldness was caused by lack of acidity, which is probably why animal urine was regarded as a pre-eminent hair loss remedy. And up until about 50 years ago, electric shock treatments were used in the belief that the flow of blood, or lack thereof, was responsible for hair loss. The truth is…you really should be blaming your parents. (And not just your mom either.)
Baldness is caused by a mixture of genetics and hormones that we have very little control of. Though scientists are pretty close to identifying the genes responsible for baldness, (there’s more than one), the actual process of baldness is still quite a mystery. They are pretty sure that it is one particularly enzyme’s overzealous conversion of testosterone into (DHT) or dihydrotestosterone, an important part of male fetus development that causes baldness.
For some reason, science still isn’t sure why, these high levels of DHT react in a negative way with hair on the scalp, causing small hair follicles that ordinarily would be regenerating new hairs every 2-6 years, to shrink and render them useless to the creation of new hair. Again for some reason, and scientists don’t know about this one either, the hair on the sides of the head do not react the same way to DHT, leading to that “monk look” so common in men suffering from baldness.
Women suffering from baldness can blame powerful andogens created by the ovaries and adrenal glands combined with loss of estrogen for their hair loss. This is evidenced by a high-rate of female pattern baldness among women during menopause when testosterone levels are highest among women.
As we move closer to finding the cause of baldness we will probably find it is more a combination of factors than one isolated cause. It is important to remember that pattern baldness is not a disease and has no corresponding side effect other than hair loss. (And not all of it coming from your mom’s side. So give her a break.)

Five ways Linux is better than Vista
27 09 2007A user or sysadmin posts about problems with a brand new Vista PC on a support forum. Within minutes, a “helpful” soul suggests a fix: “Install Linux!”
Enthusiasts have always touted Linux as the best operating system, and they’ve become more strident and shrill since Vista’s launch. Despite Microsoft’s optimistic predictions and fervent proselytising, Vista has received a chilly reception in the marketplace.

93 Years of Evangelization: The Iglesia ni Cristo
27 07 2007WHEN the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) was founded on July 27, 1914, Minister Felix Ysagun Manalo was administering to the spiritual needs of just a few converts. Through the years, the Iglesia ni Cristo has grown to 200 congregations or locales located in the Philippines and 66 other countries worldwide.
The Iglesia ni Cristo’s significant role in Philippine society is attributed to its dynamic leaders, from its founding Executive Minister, Felix Y. Manalo, to its current Executive Minister Erano “Ka Erdy” Manalo. Ka Erdy has been assisted in the last 54 years of leading the INC by a disciplined and dedicated group of ministers and members who have implemented vigorous expansion efforts and have constantly adhered to the INC’s doctrines that have been desseminated in the regular church service, in many places using the vernacular languages, and through the regular publication of Pasugo or God’s Message.
With the cohesiveness of the Iglesia ni Cristo, the congregation has also been an active participant in charting the nation’s future. Last year, the Iglesia’s contribution to nation-building was recognized by the House of Representatives through a unanimous resolution that cited the evangelizing guidance of its leaders. The resolution also recognized that the INC has provided spiritual nourishment and support to millions of its faithful in various parts of the world and has served even the material needs of not only its flock but also of many other marginalized Filipino families, through outreach programs on education and youth work.
We congratulate the Iglesia ni Cristo headed by Executive Minister Eraño G. Manalo, and the Officials and Members on the occasion of their 93rd Anniversary and wish them success in all their endeavors.

Vista: 150 problems, 0 solutions
12 07 2007Microsoft likes to boast that Vista is better than ever at logging difficulties with software and suggesting solutions through its Problem Reports and Solutions feature—but for an OS that’s been in final release for six months, the number of actual solutions is a tad on the minimal side. Here’s the sorry evidence of what actually happens when you try and get Vista to heal itself. This is a true story, and none of the names have been changed.

Ten things you didn’t know about Leopard
10 07 2007Leopard didn’t get a great reaction when Steve demoed it at WWDC. But more info about it is slowly leaking out from developers who are testing it and I’ve been made aware of some great stuff that Steve didn’t talk about in his keynote address.
I can also say for sure that Leopard, when it’s released will beat the pants of Vista in terms of speed and functionality. Windows users should however read this article so you’ll know what to expect on your machines by 2011.
